Couches are not easy to assemble, but they are easy to take apart.
This is a question that I am asked on a regular basis. The answer is that most couches do come apart and it is possible to reassemble them. The process usually takes about an hour or less if you have the right tools and know-how.
Can a couch come apart?
Whether you want to throw it out without having to rent a dumpster or you can’t get it to physically fit through the door, it’s possible to take it apart yourself. This way, once it’s broken down into smaller pieces you can move it or throw it away with ease.
What do you do if your couch doesn’t fit through the door?
Tip it on its end. Moving a couch vertically can help it fit through a door when there’s limited space to manoeuvre on either side. This method might mean dragging it over the carpet strip or doorframe, so be careful not to scratch or tear the fabric.
How do you determine if sofa will fit through door?
Compare the width of your doorframe with the height of your sofa allowing some wiggle room either side. This will determine if we can take the sofa through on its side. If the door width is greater than the height of your sofa, then it will fit through.
